Welcome to Tanjung Kelayang Reserve (TKR), a unique destination on the northeast shore of Belitung Island that harmonizes tourism and conservation. Spanning around 350 hectares, TKR is dedicated to preserving the natural beauty and biodiversity of the region while offering visitors a tranquil and enriching experience.

Our Commitment

Over 50% of TKR is designated as a natural reserve, reflecting our profound respect for the ecosystem. We actively maintain and protect coastal forests, primarily peatlands and swamplands, ensuring that local flora and fauna thrive.

TKR serves as a haven for endemic and endangered plant species and participates in rewilding efforts by releasing endangered animals into the reserve. Our meticulous documentation of various plant, insect, and mammal species contributes valuable data to global biodiversity studies.

Sustainability Efforts

Sustainability is at the heart of TKR. Visitors can explore our forest through an educational nature trail with our resident biologist, who explains the variety of endemic plants and insects native to the island. Guests can also visit our honey farm, where stingless Trigona bees produce delicious honey, available directly from the hive.

Our facilities incorporate local and salvaged materials, such as driftwood and local woods, in their design. The use of Renggadai wood and bricks made from local kaolinite clay, handcrafted by local villagers, showcases our dedication to local traditions. Our innovative water treatment plant captures and stores rainwater and surface water in a kaolinite-lined lake, treated in a solar-powered facility and distributed throughout TKR, supporting our sustainable tourism model.

Embracing The Future

At TKR, we aim to offer a unique tourism experience that allows visitors to fully appreciate the natural beauty of the Tanjung Kelayang area. We encourage respectful interaction with the environment, promoting a sense of place and a slower pace of life. Our goal is to create a destination where the untouched natural environment and tourism coexist harmoniously, providing a peaceful retreat that honors Belitung’s ecological heritage. TKR aims to re-establish Belitung Island’s significance in the global map, restoring its historical prominence from the 9th-century maritime trade route to the Dutch colonial era.

Join us at Tanjung Kelayang Reserve and experience the serene beauty of Belitung Island, where sustainable tourism offers a truly unique experience.
